I was born in London, England, and as my father likes to remind me — my birthday was the day England won the World Cup. At age 9 I was given my first guitar, a Woolworth special that I spray-painted silver. By age 14 I had acquired a 4-track tape recorder and promptly started talking anyone I met into letting me produce them. By 17 I got my first real job as a tape-op in a London studio, and then got a mysterious job offer to go on the road with a rock band in Dubai – so I went for it! I’ve been working in music ever since.
Some of my career highlights include tracking a 50-piece orchestra in the Getty mansion ballroom with Third Eye Blind, recording in a van under the Millennium Falcon at Disneyland at 3am, recording Vanessa Carlton on the aircraft carrier sized scoring stage at Skywalker Sound, getting to record Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham at the Record Plant, working with Ministry at Pearl Harbor for a New Year’s Eve concert, tracking vocals for Kesha in the Tenderloin District of San Fran, and creating my first Atmos mix for the European electro band The Science.
Today I’m based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and work in-person and remotely with people all over the world.
Every project I do is an adventure into the unknown, you just don’t know what will happen. Even with all the modern tech we have, no two musical experiences are ever exactly the same. And as long as we never run out of artists who have a message to tell the world, music will never be boring.
Immersive audio (such as Dobly Atmos mixing) has really blown my mind in recent years. It’s one of the best tools to help artists widen the goal posts on their artistic vision. We’ve never been at a better intersection of tech innovation and artistic expression.
Thanks to new technology, we can collaborate together no matter where you live. Whether you need mixing, production, recording or want to collaborate on multi-media projects, I can work with you remotely or in-person.
